Box Score YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team picked up a gritty 4-3 win over Penn State Altoona on Saturday at the Wisehaven Tennis Center in York.

The Spartans improve to 8-2 overall and 5-1 at home as they have won two straight and eight of their last nine. The Lions fall to 10-2 as the Spartans snapped their four-game win streak.

The three doubles matches were all tightly contested as they each went to a tiebreaker. The Lions got a 7-6 (8-6) second doubles win to open the match. The Lions then clinched the doubles point as their third doubles team consisting of Emmett Hibbs and Kayden Carey outlasted the Spartan duo of
Hayden Musser and
Blake Vandenberge 7-6 (7-3). The Spartans got a win from
Evan Stehman and
Parker Sanders in the first doubles match as the York tandem earned a 7-6 (7-5) win. The Stehman/Sanders pairing improved to 4-0 with the win.

The Spartans tied the match early on in singles play as
Ian Bartles outlasted Wilhelm Grot 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 in the sixth singles match. York took a 2-1 lead as Musser downed Hibbs 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 in the fifth singles match. Musser picked up his team-leading eighth singles win of the year with the victory.

The Lions tied the match at two with a first singles win from Casey Hess. York answered with a
Drew Heinzelmann 6-1, 6-2 fourth singles win as they led 3-2 with two matches remaining. The Lions tied the match at three with a third singles win from Nick Beard.

The overall match came down to the second singles match as Sanders and
Andrew Chronister split the first two sets. Sanders won set one 6-4 while Chronister won the second set 6-2. Sanders then won the match for the Green and White with a 10-1 third set victory, sealing the 4-3 victory.

The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon as they will host McDaniel in their final non-conference contest of the year. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start at the Myers Tennis Complex in York.
