Men’s Wrestling Concludes Season on Day One of Regionals

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The York men's wrestling team wrapped the 2024-25 season on Friday at the conclusion of day one of the NCAA Region III Championship hosted by Messiah University.

The Spartans finished in 17th place out of 18 teams with eight team points. No. 21 TCNJ leads the way after day one with 95.5 points, followed by Messiah (80.5), No. 6 Alvernia (79.5), No. 22 NYU (72.5) and Merchant Marine (61.0) in the top-five.

All nine Spartan wrestlers failed to advance to Saturday's placement rounds and national qualification bouts. Jacob DelVecchio (125), Vincent Paolucci (133), Jacob Grzybek (141) and Jack Wendel (184) all finished with a record of 1-2 on the day. David Vacca (149), Frank Gulli (157), Owen Dixon (197) and Derek Martin (285) all went 0-2. Josh Stahl (174) voluntarily withdrew from the tournament prior to the start of competition on Friday.

Two of York's four victories on the day came with bonus points as Grzybek scored a 16-1 technical fall over Owen Heffner (Elizabethtown) and Wendel posted a fall (2:49) against Charles Kitching (Scranton).

Stahl led the Spartans in wins this season as he finished with a record of 25-3 with a team-high 11 technical falls and a team-best 10 falls. Paolucci (20-9) finished his rookie campaign ranked second on the team with 20 wins. Delvecchio (19-9) and Grzybek (19-16) finished tied for third on the team with 19 wins each. Wendel (17-13) finished fourth on the team with 17 wins, but led the squad with 13 falls.
