Stahl Captures Title to Lead York at New Standard

YORK, Pa. - The York men's wrestling team had one individual champion and finished 12th out of 16 teams at the 16th Annual New Standard Invitational hosted by York College on Friday and Saturday.

No. 8 North Central claimed the team title to become the fourth different champion in as many years. The Cardinals accumulated 129.5 points to edge out No. 22 Washington and Lee who finished second with 125.5 points, followed by Ursinus (118.5), No. 17 Ithaca (111) and No. 11 Johnson & Wales (105) in the top-five.

No. 1-ranked Christian Guzman (North Central) earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors as he won the 125-pound title with five technical falls while out-scoring his opponents 84-4.

Josh Stahl carried the torch for York as the lone Spartan to land on the podium and did so by capturing the 197-pound title. The fifth-year Spartan went 4-0 on the day with three technical falls and a win by forfeit while he out-scored his competition 54-7. He captured the title by defeating Sean Cowan (Ursinus), 22-7, with seven takedowns.

Stahl's victory is just the sixth individual title for York in the 16-year history of the New Standard Invitational and it marks the first time since 2019 (Eric Hutchinson) a Spartan has stood atop the podium. He is also a two-time New Standard finalist after finishing second last season at 174 lbs.

Stahl is now 13-0 this season and has finished first in all three tournaments this season.

The Spartans will return to the mats on December 20th at the Chocolate Duals hosted by Messiah University.
