ANNVILLE, PA – The York College men's tennis team saw their campaign come to a close on Tuesday in the semifinal round of the 2023 MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament. The Spartans entered the tournament as the fourth seed and fell to #1 seeded Lebanon Valley 5-0 in Annville, PA.
The Spartans finish the campaign with a record of 7-10 while the top seeded Dutchmen move on to the championship match with a record of 16-3. LVC will face second seeded Stevenson in the championship match on Saturday.
The Dutchmen opened doubles play with an 8-1 second doubles win followed by an 8-3 third doubles victory. The Spartans' first doubles tandem of
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman battled in their match but eventually dropped an 8-6 decision to Justin Schuetz and Adam Warren.
The Dutchmen needed just two singles points to conclude the match and they got them from Jesse Beck in the fifth singles and Brendan Byler in the sixth singles match. Beck downed
Jason Lutz 6-1, 6-3 and Byler beat
Lance Fries 6-2, 6-3.
Ben Dorsey ended up leading the Spartans in singles victories as he was 12-4 for the campaign. Lutz completed his freshman campaign with mark of 8-2 in singles action. Dorsey and senior
Jack Leinbach led the team with nine doubles wins for the year.
The Dutchmen are now 2-0 against the Spartans in the MAC Commonwealth tournament.
