YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team had their two-match win streak snapped by the Salisbury University Sea Gulls on Sunday afternoon in York. The Sea Gulls blanked the Spartans 9-0 in the non-conference match.
The Spartans fall to 4-5 while the Sea Gulls improve to 8-5.
The Sea Gulls began the match with a trio of wins in the doubles matches. The Spartans' first doubles team of
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman battled but fell to Gianluca Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas 8-6 in their match. It was the closest of the three doubles contests.
The Sea Gulls won all six singles matches in straight sets. Laliwala played well in the first singles match for York but he fell to Russell Willenborg 6-4, 6-2. York's
Grant Haffner had a strong showing at the sixth singles match as Salisbury's Tim Holt edged Haffner 7-5, 6-3.
The Spartans jump back into conference play on Tuesday afternoon when they head to Grantham, PA to face the Messiah Falcons in a key MAC Commonwealth match. The contest is set for a 3:30 pm start.
