Box Score READING, PA – The York College women's tennis team picked up an important MAC Commonwealth win on Sunday afternoon as they bested Alvernia University 6-3 at Governor Mifflin High School in Reading.
The Spartans improve to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Golden Wolves fall to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles points to seize the early lead. York's
Elsa Oestermarker and
Brianna Rohrer combined to earn an 8-5 first doubles win. The Golden Wolves won the second doubles contest but the Spartan duo of
Eleanor Beck and
Emily Louie posted an 8-2 third doubles win.
Oestermarker kicked off singles play as she earned a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) first singles win over Leah Bouchard.
Hannah Sult rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 second singles win for the Green and White.
The Golden Wolves picked up third and fourth singles wins to cut into the Spartan lead. Beck clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 fifth singles win over Liz Danovich. Louie closed out the match with a 6-2, 7-5 sixth singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Stevenson University in a key MAC Commonwealth contest. The match, which is the last regular season home game of the year, starts at 3:30 pm.
