Box Score READING, PA – The York College men's tennis team recorded an 8-1 MAC Commonwealth win at Alvernia University on Sunday afternoon at Governor Mifflin High School in Reading.
The Spartans improve to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the league while the Golden Wolves are now 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the Commonwealth.
The Spartans got off to a great start in the doubles matches but it wasn't easy as each match was a battle.
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman earned an 8-4 first doubles win.
Jack Leinbach and
Ben Dorsey combined to outlast their Alvernia opponents 8-7 (7-5) in the second doubles contest.
Jason Lutz and
Hayden Musser teamed up to post an 8-4 third doubles win.
Laliwala kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 first singles win over Luke Berger. Leinbach defeated Jay Lewis 6-3, 7-5 in the second singles contest. Stehman earned a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) third singles win over Alvernia's Tommy Figurelli as the Spartans kept rolling.
The Golden Wolves got a fourth singles win as the Spartans had an injury default.
Lutz kept rolling as he improved to 6-0 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win for the Green and White.
Lance Fries concluded the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 sixth singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host Stevenson in a key MAC Commonwealth contest at the Myers Tennis Complex. The match is the final home regular season contest of the year for the Spartans. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
