Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The York College women's tennis team opened their 2023 spring season with a 7-2 road loss at Randolph-Macon on Saturday in Ashland, Virginia.
The loss snaps York's modest two game win streak as they fall to 4-3. The Yellow Jackets are now 4-2 with the win.
The Yellow Jackets got off to a good start by sweeping the three doubles matches for the early lead. The Spartans battled and kept the three matches close including an 8-7 loss by the Spartans number one doubles team of
Elsa Oestermarker and
Brianna Rohrer.
The Yellow Jackets recorded wins in the first three singles matches but York did notch a pair of wins.
Morrissey Walsh posted a 7-6, 3-6, 8-6 win at fourth doubles while
Emily Louie outlasted Becky Villeda 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 in the sixth singles match. Walsh improves to a team-leading 7-1 with her singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they square off against Lancaster Bible at the Hempfield Racquet Club in Lancaster. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
