Box Score MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the year as Penn State Harrisburg edged the Green and White 5-4 on Saturday in Middletown.
The Lions improve to 2-0 while the Spartans fall to 2-1.
The Spartans got off to a great start as
Elsa Oestermarker and
Brianna Rohrer earned an 8-6 first doubles win to put York on top. The Lions answered with wins at the second and third doubles matches. Sam Bogush and Sophia Bandini bested
Hannah Sult and
Bri Serruto 8-6 in the second doubles match. Gabby Sabatose and Sarah Shaub combined to beat
Morrissey Walsh and
Eleanor Beck 8-5 in the third doubles match.
Oestermarker got the Spartans back in the win column with a 7-5, 6-2 first singles win over Bogush. However, the Lions captured the next two singles matches to take a 4-2 lead. Walsh made it 4-3 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nizaly Ortiz-Kreiner in the fourth singles match.
Harrisburg secured the win in the sixth singles match as Sabatose downed
Claire Bernard 6-1, 6-3 in the match. Beck earned York's final point with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 fifth singles win over Bandini.
The Spartans are now off until October 8 when they head to Ursinus to take on the Bears in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 10:00 pm start.
