WILKES-BARRE, PA – The York College women's tennis squad opened their 2021 fall season with a trip to Wilkes-Barre to participate in the Middle Atlantic Conference women's tennis individual championships.
The Spartans, who are the defending Commonwealth champions, had a good day during the first day of the two-day tournament.

First Doubles
The Spartans duo of
Elsa Oestermarker and
Lauren Ostermann advanced to the Sunday semifinals after a pair of wins on Saturday. They began the tournament with an 8-6 win over the duo of Nicole DelRosso and Erin Weller to move to the quarterfinals. The Spartan duo then bounced the Arcadia doubles team of Julia Paraboschi and Karolina Iordache 8-4. They will face the Wilkes team of Dasha Yakhnis and Theresa Amerise in the semifinals on Sunday morning.

Second Doubles
The Spartans second doubles team of
Brianna Rohrer and
Morrissey Walsh had a good day on Saturday as they also advanced to the tournament semifinals. They opened the day with an 8-3 win over Lycoming's Emily Wolfgang and Haley Seebold. Rohrer and Walsh then upset top seeded Alexa Cieri and Cassidy Greenman, 8-6, to punch their ticket to the semifinals. They will face the Lebanon Valley doubles squad of Madison Poladian and Eliana Shenk for the right to go to the second doubles championship match.

Third Doubles
The Spartans third doubles team of
Chloe Doyle and
Kelsey Sheets fell in their opening match of the day. Doyle and Sheets fell to Misericordia's third doubles team of Lydia Barbour and Cassie Benderavich 8-3.

First Singles
Sophomore
Elsa Oestermarker, the reigning Comonwealth Player of the Year, won her first match to open her Saturday. She bested FDU-Florham's Nicole DelRosso 7-5, 6-3 to move onto the quarterfinals. She then fell to DeSale's Kirsten Kosa in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 to end her quest for an individual first singles MAC Championship.

Second Singles
Senior
Lauren Ostermann entered the second doubles flight as the third seed. She began her tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Lycoming's Madison Heller. Ostermann followed that win with a hard fought 1-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Alvernia's Jill Laughman. Ostermann will face Misericordia's Emily Brecker in Sunday's semifinals. Brecker is the flight's second seed.

Third Singles
Senior
Brianna Rohrer had a great Saturday as she advanced to the third singles semifinals. Rohrer began her day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stevenson's Kera Skove. She then downed DeSale's Morgan Landau 6-2, 6-4. Rohrer, who is the fourth seed, will face top seeded Alexis Fuda from Stevens in Sundays semifinals.

Senior
Chloe Doyle began her day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Albright's Maddie Taylor. Doyle, the flight's third seed, was then upset by Alvernia's Rachel Rineer 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals to end her stay in the tournament.

Fifth Singles
York's
Morrissey Walsh opened the day at fifth singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Messiah's Nicole Lee. Walsh then had to face top-seeded Isabella Dona from Stevens. Dona posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Walsh to advance to the semifinals.

The Spartans
Kelsey Sheets was in a similar spot to Walsh. She cruised through her opening match, downing Stevenson's Eden Platt 6-0, 6-0. She advanced to face the top seeded Juliette Marchisio from Stevens in the quarterfinals. Marchisio posted a 6-1, 6-1 win to earn her way to the semifinals.

The Spartans will get back to action on Sunday at 9:00 am as the semifinal doubles matches kick off the action. The singles semifinal matches will be next followed by the singles championships. The doubles championships will end the day on Sunday.
