LEXINGTON, VA – The York College women's tennis team saw their record-breaking 2021 season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to #24 Denison in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Lexington, Virginia.
The Spartans conclude their season with a record of 11-2 and the loss snaps their school record nine match win streak. Denison improves to 8-3 overall as they advance to face the winner of the Washington & Lee and TCNJ second round game.
The Big Red captured all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola downed Michaela Sentz and Lauren Ostermann 8-0 in the first doubles match. Sarah Robertson and Sydney Cianciola defeated Brianna Rohrer and Chloe Doyle 8-1 in the second doubles match. Monique Brual and Kendal Schrader posted an 8-1 third doubles win over the Spartan tandem of Morrissey Walsh and Kelsey Sheets.
The Big Red pushed the lead to 4-0 when Brual posted a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win over Walsh. The match concluded when Cash earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ostermann in the second singles match.
The Spartans are slated to return their entire team in 2021-22 as the Green and White did not have a senior on this year's roster.
