YORK, Pa. - The York College women's tennis team opened the 2021 season with a convincing 8-1 victory over Messiah on Saturday at the Spartan Tennis Center.
Doubles Play
The Spartans (1-0) took two out of three from Messiah (0-1) in doubles play. York's No. 1 pairing of Elsa Oestermarker and Lauren Ostermann rolled to an 8-3 victory in their first competition together. Briana Rohrer and Morrissey Walsh also teamed up for the first time and cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 flight.
Singles Play
York posted a clean sweep in singles play. Oestermarker capped off her Spartan debut in style as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the top singles flight. Michaela Sentz also posted 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 flight.
Ostermann edged out a 6-4 victory in the first set before rolling to a 6-1 win in the second set at No. 3 singles. Rohrer posted York's lone shutout of the day, winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 flight for her first-career singles win.
Chloe Doyle battled through a 6-4 victory in her first set before posting a 6-1 victory the second set at No. 5 singles. Morrissey Walsh improves to 2-0 in her career following a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 flight.
