YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 Capital Athletic Conference win over St. Mary's College on Sunday morning in York. The Spartans improve to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the league. The Seahawks fall to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
The Spartans swept the three doubles matches to jump out to an early lead. The Spartans' number one doubles team of Katie Wagner and Darian Naill outlasted the St. Mary's duo of Melissa Barall and Marissa Romanek 9-8 (7-4). Rachel Wagner and Mckenzie Krout combined to cruise to an 8-2 second doubles win. Carter Vaughn and Maisie Supp teamed up to earn an 8-4 third doubles win for the Green and White.
Katie Wagner earned her 29th career win as she posted a 6-3, 6-4 first singles win over Barall. Wagner is now just two wins away from tying Kaitlyn Acker for the school record for career singles wins.
Rachel Wagner earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Romanek in the second singles contest. St. Mary's won the third and fourth singles matches but York closed out the match with wins at fifth and sixth singles. Supp earned a 6-4, 6-1 fifth singles win while Gina Liguori earned the 6-3, 6-4 sixth singles win for York.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they head to Middletown to face the PSU Harrisburg Lions in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
