YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team split a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday in York. The Spartans defeated St. Mary's 6-3 in the opener before falling to Mary Washington 9-0 in the nightcap.
The Spartans are now 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the league. St. Mary's is now 8-9 overall and 2-5 in the CAC. Mary Washington now stands at 16-6 and 7-0 in the league.
The Spartans opened the St. Mary's match with a pair of doubles victories to take the 2-1 lead. Sam Innerst and Devin Lehigh earned an 8-1 first doubles win. Ben Sentz and Sam Price then combined to earn an 8-6 second doubles win.
In singles play, Innerst, Sentz and Lehigh earned wins at the first three singles flights. Innerst defeated Eathan Garren 6-2, 7-5. Sentz defeated Connor McKissick 6-1, 6-3 and Lehigh earned a 6-3, 7-5 win at third singles.
St. Mary's notched wins at fourth and fifth singles but Joel Hess earned a 6-4, 1-6, 13-11 sixth singles win to close out the match.
In the Mary Washington match, the Eagles swept the doubles matches with the Spartans earning one point. In singles play, Mary Washington swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Middletown to face the Penn State Harrisburg in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match kicks off at 3:30 pm.
