SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Salisbury University on Sunday afternoon in Salisbury, Maryland.
The Sea Gulls improve to 7-5 overall and are now 3-1 in the CAC. Salisbury is ranked 13th in the most recent regional rankings. The Spartans fall to 4-3 overall as they are now 1-2 in the league.
The Green and White got off to a fantastic start in the match as York won two of the three doubles points. The Spartan tandem of Katie Wagner and Darian Naill earned an exciting 9-8 (7-5) first doubles win over Annika Kezman and Julie Kwedi. Kezman and Kwedi are a regionally ranked doubles team.
Rachel Wagner and Mckenzie Krout combined to earn an 8-4 second doubles victory as York took a 2-1 lead to the singles matches.
Kezman got revenge on Katie Wagner in the number one singles match as she outlasted the Spartan ace 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4. Wagner suffered just her second loss of the season as she is now 5-2.
Freshman Maisie Supp captured the Spartans' lone singles win as she defeated Jordan Schaefer 6-4, 6-4. Schaefer is the reigning CAC Player of the Week as Supp improves to 5-1 in singles play this season.
The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon as they head to Gettysburg College to face the Bullets in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
