FROSTBURG, MD – The York College women's tennis team completed their Capital Athletic Conference schedule with an 8-1 win at Frostburg State University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the CAC as York will be the fourth seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Bobcats are now 6-11 overall and 1-6 in the league.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches to seize control of the match early. Katie Wagner and Darian Naill combined to earn an 8-2 first doubles win over Kate Paylor and Kennedy Logsdon. Mckenzie Krout and Maisie Supp posted an 8-4 win at the second doubles match for the 2-1 Spartan lead.
History was tied in singles play as Wagner earned her 31st career victory with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Paylor in the first singles match. Wagner now boasts a career record of 31-8, good for a winning percentage of .795, the best mark in school history.
Krout earned a 6-1, 6-1 second singles win as she picked up her fifth win of the year and 28th career victory as she is now tied for second on the all-time wins list. Naill had to go to three sets to earn her third singles win as she outlasted Jenna Lipinski 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Supp continues to impress during her freshman year as she improved to 9-2 with a double bagel win over Emma Seibert in the fourth singles match. Jessica Sherman outlasted Allison Paul for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 fifth singles win for York. Regan Ford made her collegiate singles debut with a 6-1, retired victory over Sammi Turner in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans will open their stay in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday as they will host #5 seed St. Mary's in the tournament's opening round. The start time for the match will be determined on Thursday.
