Spartan Men Notch 8-1 Win at Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 Capital Athletic Conference win at Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown on Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the league. York has won two of their last three matches. The Lions fall to 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

The Spartans swept the three doubles points to get off to a fast start. The Spartan duo of Sam Innerst and Devin Lehigh notched an 8-5 win at the first doubles match. Freshmen Ben Sentz and Tyler Richard combined to earn an 8-6 second doubles win for York. Joel Hess and Lukas Olson teamed up to record an 8-6 third doubles win.

In singles play, Sentz got the Spartans off to a good start as he notched a 6-3, 6-0 second singles win over Rafael Fernandes. Innerst then defeated Austin Pokopec 7-5, 6-2 in the first singles match to clinch the match for York as the Spartans led 5-0.

Lehigh kept the Spartans rolling with a 7-6 (5), 3-1, retired victory at third singles. Hess earned a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win in the fourth singles match. The Lions broke up the shutout with a win at fifth singles. Richard closed out the win with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win in sixth singles.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when they head to Frostburg State to face the Bobcats in their CAC regular season finale. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
