ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's tennis team earned a tight 5-4 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament victory over St. Mary's College in the first round of the tournament on Saturday in St. Mary's City, Maryland. The Spartans improve to 9-4 overall as they advance to the tournament semifinals on Tuesday. The Seahawks see their tournament run come to a close with a mark of 8-9.

1st Singles: Katie Wagner def. Melissa Barall 6-4, 7-6 (7-5)
2nd Singles: Rachel Wagner def. Anna Passaniti 6-1, 6-0
3rd Singles: Mckenzie Krout def. Marissa Romanek 6-4, 6-2

1st Doubles: Katie Wagner and Darian Naill def. Melissa Barall and Marissa Romanek 8-5
2nd Doubles: Rachel Wagner and Mckenzie Krout def. Liza Moore and Emily Rost 8-2

The match saw the Spartans take a 2-1 lead after doubles play … Rachel Wagner won the first singles match as York pushed out to a 3-1 lead … St. Mary's won the sixth and then the fifth singles match as they tied the match at three all … York's Mckenzie Krout put York back on top 4-3 with her third singles win … Emily Rost tied the match again, this time at four with her fourth singles win … sophomore standout Katie Wagner won the match for the Spartans as she posted a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory in the first singles match … Wagner is now 10-2 in first singles for the Spartans while Rachel Wagner also has ten wins (10-3) for the Spartans … Mckenzie Krout picked up her ninth singles win of the year … Wagner, Wagner, and Krout are a combined 29-7 at the top of the Spartan lineup this year.
