Spartan Women Conclude 2015-16 Regular Season

ARLINGTON, VA – The York College women's swim squad closed out their 2015-16 season with a 114-91 loss at Marymount University on Sunday afternoon in Arlington. The meet came less than 24 hours after the Spartans' home finale against Mary Washington and was necessitated by the cancellation of the original date during Winter Storm Jonas.  

The meet began with the Spartans' 200 medley relay earning a second place finish. Kate McConaghy (Phoenixville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Samantha Hay (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), Maddy Mann (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical), and Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) teamed up to earn a time of 2:01.31.

Andrea Sturgis (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) picked up the Spartans' first win of the day as she was victorious in the 1000 free with a time of 11:30.16. Mann picked up York's second straight win as she cruised to victory in the 200 free, touching the wall in a time of 2:01.50. That was good for a 7.26 second victory.

Witte earned a third place finish in the 50 free as she recorded a time of 27.25. The Saints captured the top three spots in the 400 IM but York rebounded with a one-two finish in the 200 butterfly as Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy) won the race with a time of 2:20.63. McConaghy placed second with a time of 2:23.54.

Mann picked up her second win of the day as she continues to be the top freshman in the CAC. She finished first in the 100 free with a time of 55.38. Witte earned a third place finish in the race with a time of 58.07.

Freshman Julia Bogdanski (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) earned a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke for York as she posted a time of 2:19.31. Sturgis then earned her second win of the day, touching the wall first in the 500 free with a time of 5:36.72.

Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) earned a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:42.34. The Spartans' 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Sturgis, Reilly Kobus (York, Pa./Northeastern), Sara Zalkind (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), and Taylor Michielini (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) combined to finish second with a time of 1:48.26.

York will now turn its attention to the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by St. Mary's College. The championships begin on Friday, February 19 and will conclude on Sunday, February 21.
