Spartan Men Celebrate Senior Day in Style

YORK, PA – The York College men's swim team celebrated their 2016 Senior Day with a 118-67 Capital Athletic Conference win over Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon in York.

The Spartans improve to 6-5 overall and they are now 1-2 in the league. Frostburg falls to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the CAC.

The day began with senior day ceremonies as York's four seniors were honored prior to the meet. Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa), David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake), Martin Dichmann-Schmidt (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown), Ben Hassinger (York, Pa./York Suburban), along with their parents, were recognized for their contributions to the Spartan program over the last four years.

The meet began with the Spartans registering a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), Walthall and Trevor Brinton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) combined to notch a winning time of 1:40.57. The "B" relay team consisting of Altobelli, Tim McCullough (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven), Nick Leidy (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Jacob McConnell (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) placed second as they notched a time of 1:43.26.

Freshman Brandon Tarbrake (Beltsville, Md./Gonzaga College) earned a win in the 1000 free as he posted a time of 10:56.54. Teammate Esdras Moore (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) placed second with a time of 11:16.72.

McConnell led a 1-2-3 Spartan finish in the 200 freestyle as he touched the wall in a time of 1:53.55. Artem Peshenko (Elkins Park, Pa./Abington) (1:55.82) was second followed by Colton Boyles (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) (1:59.11) who finished third. The Bobcats earned a win in the 50 freestyle but the next four slots were manned by the Spartans as they picked up 10 of the 19 points in the event. Brinton (22.60) finished second followed by Colin Sload-Diehl (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) (23.54) in third.

Walthall earned his first individual win of the day as he was victorious in the 200 IM, earning a time of 2:03.05. Walthall won the race by over six seconds while Timmerman placed third at 2:12.08. The Green and White got another 1-2-3 finish in the 100 fly. Leidy won the race with a time of 56.83 followed by McCullough (58.67) and Moore (59.95).

York kept rolling in the 100 free as the Spartans recorded yet another 1-2-3 finish led by Brinton as he touched the wall in a time of 49.82. Peshenko (51.25) was second followed by Sload-Diehl (52.44). Schreiber kept the Spartans steaming towards victory as he cruised to the win in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 54.70. Altobelli placed second with a time of 57.85 while Billy Sieck (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven) (1:03.81) was third.

The Spartans swam the final three events as exhibitions as the result was already determined. McConnell had the best time in the 500 free (5:08.82). Walthall also had the top time in the 100 breaststroke (57.45) as he just missed setting a new pool record. The 200 free relay team of Peshenko, Schreiber, Altobelli and Sload-Diehl also posted the best time in the event.

York returns to action on Friday evening when they host Randolph-Macon in a non-conference meet. The action starts at 5:00 pm.
