GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis squad continued their red hot start to the 2015-16 season as the Spartans rolled past Messiah 8-1 in a non-conference match on Saturday in Grantham.
The Spartans are now 3-0 while the Falcons fall to 0-1.
The Green and White got started on the right foot with a trio of doubles wins to take the 3-0 lead. The first doubles tandem of Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) had to battle but eventually earned an 8-5 win over Ashli Livermore and Kelly Hopkins.
Rachel Wagner (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) and Carter Vaughn (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) teamed up to record an 8-2 second doubles win over Carly Dove and Kaitlyn Russell. Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) combined to roll past their Falcon opponents 8-1 in the third doubles match.
Katie Wagner was tested for the first time this year as she outlasted Livermore 6-4, 6-3 in the first singles match. Rachel Wagner dropped her first games of the year as she downed Hopkins 6-2, 6-1 in second singles match.
Krout kept it rolling for the Green and White as she rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the third singles match. Naill remained perfect in singles play as she outlasted Meagan Scala 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 in the fourth singles match.
Dove picked up downed Vaughn 6-0, 6-3 in the fifth singles match while Elizabeth Wiley (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) earned a 6-3, 6-4 sixth singles win for York.
The Spartans are now off until Saturday, October 3 when they travel to Immaculata College to face the Mighty Macs. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
