Spartan Women Roll Past Hood in Friday Non-Conference Match

FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 9-0 win over Hood College on Friday afternoon in Frederick, Maryland.

The Green and White opened the match with a pair of wins in the doubles portion of the match. Sophomore Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) rolled to an 8-2 win over the Blazer tandem of Olivia Hosch and Michelle Shedd in the first doubles match.

The York combo of Carter Vaughn (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) and Rachel Wagner (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) earned an 8-1 second doubles win for the Green and White. There was no third doubles match as the Blazers were short two players.

Katie Wagner kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 first singles win over Hosch. Rachel Wagner recorded her second straight 6-0, 6-0 second singles win as she blanked Shedd.

Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) rolled past Sophie Smith with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third singles match. Naill closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Megan Donahue in the fourth singles match. The Blazers forfeited the fifth and sixth singles matches.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Messiah College to face the Falcons in a non-conference match. The contest is slated to be a noon start in Grantham, Pa.
