FREDERICK, MD – The York College men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win in their 2015 fall opener at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
The Spartans are now 1-0 while the Blazers stand at 0-1 after the setback.
The Green and White opened the match with a pair of wins in the doubles matches. Freshman Sam Innerst (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) teamed up with sophomore Devin Lehigh (York, Pa./Central York) to earn an 8-2 first doubles win. The second doubles squad of Joel Hess (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Lukas Olson (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) combined to post an 8-3 win. There was no third doubles match contested, as the Blazers did not have a third doubles team.
Innerst began his Spartan career with a 6-0, 6-2 first singles win over Alex Sexton to get the singles play started off in favor of the Green and White. Lehigh also dominated at second singles as the sophomore earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Josh Sexton.
Senior Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) needed three sets to pull off a third singles win over Joe Benton as Hanson won 5-7, 6-4, 10-8. Junior Aaron Marti (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) kept it rolling for York with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hood's Richard Hershey in the fourth singles match.
Hess concluded the Spartan sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 fifth singles win over Nate Tesfay. The teams did not contest a sixth singles match as Olson did not have a Blazer opponent.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Messiah College to face the Falcons in a non-conference match. The contest is slated to be a noon start in Grantham, Pa.
