GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College men's tennis squad edged Gettysburg College 5-4 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon in Gettysburg.
The Spartans improve to 8-5 overall while the Bullets fall to 2-3.
The Green and White captured a pair of wins in the doubles matches. The second doubles tandem of Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earned an 8-3 victory for the Spartans. Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) combined to earn an 8-3 third doubles win as York took a 2-1 lead to singles play.
The Bullets captured the first three singles matches but the Spartans bounced back to capture the final three singles matches to earn the team win.
Sophomore Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the fourth singles match. Senior Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) had to work to post a three set win in the fifth singles match as he downed Wiley Vehslage 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-6. Hanson rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win in the sixth singles for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Southern Virginia in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start at the Spartan Tennis Centre.
