MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's tennis team notched a 6-3 win at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday morning in the opening round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.
The Spartans improve to 11-6 overall as they advance to face top seeded Mary Washington in Tuesday's conference semifinals. The Lions see their season come to an end with a mark of 7-7.
The Spartans opened the match with a pair of doubles win. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earned a hard fought 9-7 second doubles win for the Green and White. Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) cruised to an 8-1 third doubles win over James Moore and Pawel Klos as York took a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
The Spartans earned four wins in the six singles matches to earn the overall team win. Greenstein outlasted Jhonny Xue 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-5 second singles win for York. Rosenkrantz notched an easy 6-1, 6-3 win over Mitchell Ebersole in the third singles match. Sophomore Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 win in the fourth singles match for the Green and White. Hanson closed out the match with a 6-2, 7-5 sixth singles win.
The Spartans will take to the road on Tuesday as they head to Fredericksburg, Virginia to face the talented Mary Washington Eagles. Game time for the match will be determined on Monday.
