Spartan Women Bounce Frostburg in CAC Tilt

FROSTBURG, MD – The York College women's tennis team snapped their 10-match losing streak in emphatic fashion as the Green and White downed Frostburg State 8-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Frostburg, Maryland.

The Spartans improve to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the CAC while the Bobcats fall to 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the league.

York swept the three doubles matches in convincing fashion. Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) combined to earn an 8-3 first doubles win. Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) teamed up to post an 8-4 second doubles win while Mckenzie Krout (York, Pa./Red Lion) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) rolled to an 8-1 third doubles win for York.

Wagner began the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kayla Kirk in the first singles match. The Bobcats picked up their lone win of the match in the second singles contest as Kaitlin Lemmert earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Price.

Naill rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 third singles win while Krout notched a 6-3, 6-0 fourth singles win.

Skutnik kept the Spartans rolling with a 6-3, 6-4 fifth singles win. Jones closed out the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 sixth singles victory over Kumba Sankoh.

The Spartans close out their regular season with a Tuesday afternoon trip to PSU Harrisburg to face the Lions in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
