NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport Captains knocked off the York College women's tennis squad 8-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Newport News, Virginia.
The Captains, who are ranked seventh in the region, improve to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the CAC. The Spartans fall to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Captains swept the three doubles matches by scores of 8-3, 8-0, and 8-2.
York's lone win on the day came from freshman Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) as the Spartans' number one earned a 6-2, 6-3 first singles win over Alexandra Drye. Wagner is now 6-0 for the Spartans at first singles.
The Captains won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets.
York continues their weekend road trip on Sunday when they travel to Salisbury University to face the Sea Gulls. The match is slated for a 9:00 am start.
