St. Mary's Edges Spartans in Saturday CAC Action

YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis squad dropped a tough 5-4 Capital Athletic Conference decision to St. Mary's College on Saturday in York.

The Seahawks improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the CAC.

The Spartans got off to a good start in the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) combined to post an 8-6 first doubles win for York. Mckenzie Krout (York, Pa./Red Lion) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) teamed up to earn an 8-3 third doubles win.

Wagner opened up singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 first singles win as she improves to 5-0 for the year.

The Seahawks earned wins at second, third, fourth and fifth singles to secure the win. Carter Vaughn earned a sixth singles win as she defeated Katie Chase 6-0, 6-3.

The Spartans return to action on Sunday morning when they host Washington College in a non-conference contest starting at 11:00 am in York.
