Spartan Women Drop a Pair to Start Spring Trip

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The York College women's tennis team opened their spring break trip with a pair of setbacks on Monday in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The Spartans fell to Elizabethtown 9-0 and then to Lebanon Valley 8-1.

York is now 3-3 overall for the 2014-15 campaign.

In the loss to Elizabethtown, the Blue Jays captured all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores.

In singles play, Carter Vaughn dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) fifth singles decision. The other five matches were straight set decisions that went the way of the Jay.

In the Lebanon Valley match, the Dutchmen earned all three doubles victories. The Spartans' third doubles team of Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) pushed Lori Noble and Alyssa Potosnak before the LVC duo outlasted the Spartan pair 9-8 (10-8).

In singles play, the Spartans' lone win came from Vaughn in the fifth singles match as she posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marla Scacchitti.

The Spartans are on the trip without the services of top singles player Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) as she is recovering from a slight injury suffered at the end of her Spartan basketball season.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they face Roanoke in the final game of their spring trip. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
