Spartans Remain Unbeaten with Two Monday Wins

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The York College Spartans men's tennis team carried over their strong fall season with a pair of wins to open up their 2015 spring trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Spartans opened the day with a 5-4 win over Elizabethtown followed by a 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley in the nightcap. York improves to 6-0 with the two wins.

The Green and White opened up the Elizabethtown match with a pair of doubles wins to give York the early edge. The second doubles duo of Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earned an 8-2 win for York. The Spartan tandem of Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) teamed up to post an 8-2 win of their own.

In singles play, the Blue Jays got wins from first singles player Michael Cannon and second singles player Alex Machalick. The Spartans made a run started by Rosenkrantz as he rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 third singles win for the Green and White. Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fourth singles match. Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) closed out the win for York with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the fifth singles match.

In the win over Lebanon Valley, the Spartans again earned a pair of doubles victories. Greenstein and Rosenkrantz picked up their second win of the day as they posted an 8-0 shutout win in the second doubles match. Handlin and Hanson also earned their second win of the day with an 8-5 third doubles victory.

York earned a trio of singles wins to pull out the match. Bullaj earned a third singles win for his second win of the day. Erk, who got bumped up to fourth singles, outlasted Cody Manmiller 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in his match. Freshman Devin Lehigh (York, Pa./Central York) concluded the win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the fifth singles match.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when they face off against Roanoke in their final match of their spring trip. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
