YORK, PA – The York College swim team hosted a big quad meet on Saturday afternoon in York. The Spartans welcomed St. Mary's, Ursinus College and St. Vincent College to the York College Natatorium.
York dropped all three head-to-head decisions on the day as they fell to St. Mary's ,108-95, to Ursinus, 155.5-48.5, and to St. Vincent, 126-77.
Despite the three losses, the Spartans had a number of strong performances.
No performance was better than Maddy Mann (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical). The freshman standout earned a win in the 200 freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 1:55.58 to capture first place. She won the race by over a second. Mann then earned her second win with a victory in the 100 free as she completed the race with a time of 54.35. Her time in the 200 established a new pool record. Mann also recorded a second place finish, as she was the runner up in the 500 free, losing the race by just .18 seconds. Mann finished with a time of 5:13.23. For the day, Mann was responsible for 25 of the Spartans' 57 points on the day.
The Spartans began the day with a sixth place in the 400 medley relay as the foursome of Julia Bogdanski (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Meville), Chloe Fealtman (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy), and Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) combined to record a time of 4:21.57 to earn six team points.
In the 1,000 freestyle, sophomore Brianna Blackwell (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) finished third for the Green and White, completing the race with a time of 11:41.74. Freshman Andrea Sturgis (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) earned points in back of Mann in the 200 free as she placed sixth with a time of 2:04.01 to earn three team points.
Freshman Reilly Kobus (York, Pa./Northeastern) earned a team point in the 50 free as she placed eighth with a time of 27.44. The Green and White had a pair of placers in the 200 fly as Banks finished fourth and Maria Allera (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) placed eighth. Banks completed the race in a time of 2:19.79 while Allera posted time of 2:32.28.
Sturgis joined Mann again in earning points, this time in the 100 free as she placed seventh in the event with a time of 57.38. Witte placed eighth in the event with a time of 58.43.
Bogdanski earned six points in the 200 backstroke as the freshman finished third with a time of 2:19.42.
The Spartans closed out the day with a sixth place finish in the 400 free relay. Witte, Carly Jablonski (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and Sturgis teamed up to record a time of 3:55.51.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Messiah College in a non-conference meet. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
