Spartan Men Swim Well in Saturday Quad

YORK, PA – The York College men's swim team hosted a quad meet Saturday afternoon in York as the Spartans welcomed St. Mary's, Ursinus, and St. Vincent to town.

The Spartans went 0-3 for the day but two of the three matches were very close. The Spartans fell to St. Mary's, 96-91, to Ursinus, 113-74, and to St. Vincent, 95-92.

The Green and White started off the day with a victory in the 400-medley relay as the foursome of Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa), Trevor Brinton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove), and Jacob McConnell (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) combined to win the race with a time of 3:35.90. Their time was good enough to win by almost six seconds.

The second 400-medley relay squad finished sixth overall to earn six team points for the Green and White. The quartet of Martin Dichmann-Schmidt (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown), Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), Nick Leidy (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), and Artem Peshenko (Elkins Park, Pa./Abington) teamed up to post a time of 3:52.78.

Freshman Esdras Moore (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) was York's top finisher in the 1,000 free as he recorded a time of 10:43.68 as he earned four points for York.

Walthall put together a strong performance in the 200 freestyle as he placed second with a time of 1:50.29. Freshman Colin Sload-Diehl (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) was sixth in the event with a time of 1:53.64 as he earned three points for York.

Brinton finished fourth in the 50 free as he was York's top finisher in the event. Brinton touched the wall in a time of 22.56 to record five points for the Green and White. York had a pair of top seven finishes in the 200 IM. Senior captain David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) finished fourth with a time of 2:08.34 while Timmerman, a junior captain, was seventh with a time of 2:11.37.

Brinton and McConnell gave York a strong presence in the 100 free. Brinton finished second with a time of 49.54 while McConnell was .08 seconds back of his teammate to finish third at 49.62.

Schreiber earned a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a solid time of 2:04.57 as he earned seven team points. Teammate Billy Sieck (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven) placed eighth for the Spartans with a time of 2:14.23.

The Spartans dominated the 200 breaststroke led by Walthall as the All-American swam his feature event for the first time during the year. Walthall set a new pool record with a time of 2:05.84, less than a second over an NCAA B cut. Timmerman placed second as he posted a time of 2:21.06. Junior Tim McCullough (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) was the third Spartan to earn a top eight finish in the event as he placed fifth with a time of 2:23.60.

The Green and White closed out the day with a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay. The team of Peshenko, McConnell, Schreiber, and Sload-Diehl combined to finish with a time of 3:21.50.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Messiah in a 6:00 pm non-conference contest in York.
