YORK, PA – The York College women's swim squad dropped a 138-67 non-conference meet to Messiah College on Wednesday evening in York.
The Spartans fall to 1-5 overall while the Falcons improve to 4-0.
The Spartans were led by a pair of freshman as Andrea Sturgis (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Maddy Mann (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) both earned victories for York on the evening.
Sturgis earned a pair of wins, as she was victorious in the 200 free as she touched the wall in the time of 2:03.31. Sturgis then earned a victory in the 500 free as she completed the race with a time of 5:30.20. She won the 200 free by 1.16 seconds and the 500 by 3.34 seconds.
Mann, who is the reigning Capital Athletic Conference women's swimmer of the week, earned her win in the 1650 free as she cruised to a 49 second victory with a time of 18:05.90. Mann's time established a new pool record, breaking the old mark by over 28 seconds. Mann also earned a second place finish in the 100 fly as she clocked in with a time of 1:01.90.
The Green and White picked up another second place finish when Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) was the runner up in the 100 free as she finished with a time of 57.73.
The Spartans' 200-medley relay A squad earned a second place finish as they tied with Messiah's B squad. Both teams finished with a time of 2:00.42. The foursome of Julia Bogdanski (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville), Chloe Fealtman (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Kate McConaghy (Phoenixville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and Witte earned the runner-up finish for York.
A trio of Spartans earned third place finishes on the evening. Sophomores Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton), Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy), and Samantha Hay (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) each earned one third for York. Werner earned hers in the 100 free with a time of 59.49. Banks picked up her third in the 500 free with a time of 5:49.54 while Hay posted hers in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.12.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Washington & Jefferson College in a non-conference meet starting at 1:00 pm in York.
