Spartan Women Split Saturday Tri-Match at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD – The York College women's swim squad split a pair of results in Saturday's tri-meet at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. The Spartans earned a 65-30 Capital Athletic Conference win over Frostburg State and dropped a narrow 48-47 non-conference decision to Randolph-Macon.

The Spartans are now 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the CAC.

The meet began with the 200-medley relay team of Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest), Samantha Hay (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy), and Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) combined to finish third in the race with a time of 2:16.97.

Freshman Brianna Blackwell (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) earned a win in the 800 free as she touched the wall in a time of 10:18.38. Junior Madison Tonkay (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) finished fourth in the race with a time of 10:47.44.

In the 200 free, Kate McConaghy (Phoenixville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) notched a third place finish with a time of 2:25.41. Greenwald was just over a second back of McConaghy as she recorded a time of 2:26.65.

Senior Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover) earned a runner-up finish in the 50 free as she completed the race in a time of 28.70.

Banks earned the Spartans second win of the day, as she was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 5:39.13. Tonkay placed third in the event with a time of 5:56.05. McConaghy made it back-to-back wins as she touched the wall first in the 100 fly as the freshman recorded a time of 1:11.38.

Dacheux earned her second runner-up finish, as she was second in the 100 free with a time of 1:04.54. Freshman Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) was two spots back of Dacheux in fourth with a time of 1:06.55.

Freshman Sara Zalkind (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) earned a second place finish in the 100 backstroke while teammate Alex Bowman (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was third. Zalkind finished the race in a time of 1:15.64 while Bowman notched a time of 1:17.28.

Banks put together a solid effort in the 400 free as she finished second while Blackwell was third.

In the final individual event of the day, Hay was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:23.98. Werner was fourth in the race with a time of 1:26.71.

The 200 free relay squad of Greenwald, Witte, McConaghy, and Dacheux won the event with a time of 1:58.78.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, January 24 when they host Marymount in the final home meet of the season. The Spartans will honor their seniors prior to the 1:00 pm meet.
