FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's swim team completed a tough back-to-back weekend as they split a Saturday tri-meet at Frostburg State University. The Spartans picked up a 80-15 Capital Athletic Conference win over Frostburg but dropped a 59-36 decision to Randolph-Macon.
The Spartans are now 10-2 while they are 3-1 in the CAC.
The Green and White began the meet with a second place finish in the 200-medley relay. The foursome of Morgan Schreiber (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa), Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), and Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) combined to record a time of 1:50.81.
Walthall got right back into the pool and finished second in the 800 free as he notched a time of 9:22.17. Teammate Matt Terrell (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished fourth in the event with a time of 9:26.17.
Senior Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn) earned a runner-up finish in the 200 free, touching the wall in a time of 2:04.67. Hughes placed fourth with a time of 2:09.09.
Bonner earned a third place result in the 50 free as he touched the wall in a time of 24.99. Cameron Byrne (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) was right behind Bonner with a time of 25.94. Schreiber and sophomore Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) posted second and third place finishes in the 400 IM. Schreiber completed the race in a time of 5:01.21 while Stoll notched a time of 5:10.03.
Bonner recorded a third place finish in the 100 fly as he posted a time of 1:04.03 while Nick Leidy (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was fourth with a time of 1:05.53. Hughes earned a runner-up finish in the 100 free while Terrell was third. Hughes posted a time of 55.51 while Terrell touched the wall in a time of 56.24.
Schreiber earned his second runner-up finish, as he was second in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.36. Tim DeCoursey (Cherry Hills, N.J./Cherry Hill West) finished fourth with a time of 1:08.53.
Stoll picked up the Spartans' first win of the day in the 400 free as the Spartan sophomore recorded a time of 4:25.94. Latchford made it a one-two finish for York, as he was second with a time of 4:27.76.
Walthall made it back-to-back wins for York, as he was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, notching a time of 1:06.67. Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) finished fourth with a time of 1:10.42.
The Spartans finished the day with a second place finish from the 200 free relay team of Byrne, Terrell, Artem Peshenko (Elkins Park, Pa./Abington), and Latchford. The foursome recorded a time of 1:43.27.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, January 24 when they host Marymount in the final home meet of the season. The Spartans will honor their seniors prior to the 1:00 pm meet.
