GRANTHAM, PA – The York College men's tennis team remained perfect in 2014 with a tight 5-4 win over Messiah College on Tuesday afternoon in Grantham, PA.
The Spartans are now 4-0 while the Falcons fall to 0-2 for the fall.
The Green and White seized an early lead as they captured two of the three doubles points. Second doubles tandem Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) improved to 4-0 with an 8-3 win. Juniors Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) also improved to 4-0 as they outlasted the Messiah duo of Dustin Innerst and Mike Kovacs 9-7 in the third doubles match.
Messiah got back into the match with wins at first and second singles. However, Rosenkrantz notched his fourth singles win of the year as he recorded a 6-2, 6-4 third singles win. Senior Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) outlasted Peter Shuck 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 in the fourth singles match. The Falcons took the fifth singles contest but freshman Devin Lehigh (York, Pa./Central York) secured the win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Michael Kovacs in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans are now done until the spring portion of their schedule. The spring campaign begins in early March.
