OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 non-conference win at Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon in Owings Mills, MD.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 while the Mustangs fall to 0-2.
The Green and White started off the three doubles matches with an 8-5 first flight win from Katie Wagner (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll). The tandem of Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) rolled to an 8-2 second doubles win while Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 win in the third doubles flight.
In singles play, Wagner bageled her opponent, Svetlana Widell, 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Price rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 second singles win over Ty-Chelle Williams.
Naill won her third singles match after Ashley Pinter retired with the match tied at three. Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) notched an easy 6-1, 6-0 fourth singles win. Skutnik recorded a 6-3, 6-2 fifth singles win over Colleen Martin. Valles completed the 9-0 win with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Messiah to face the Falcons in a non-conference match. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
