Spartan Men Sweep Stevenson and Goucher Saturday

TOWSON, MD – The York College men's tennis squad posted a pair of non-conference wins in Maryland on Saturday. The Green and White downed Stevenson 7-2 in the opener followed by a 6-3 win over Goucher in the nightcap.

The Spartans improve to 3-0 overall while the Mustangs fall to 0-2. The Gophers are now 1-1.

In the win over Stevenson, the Spartans started off the match by winning all three doubles points. Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) combined to roll to an 8-3 win in the first doubles match. Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) teamed up to earn an 8-3 win in the second doubles flight. The tandem of Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) blanked Robbie Baker and JP D'Anna 8-0 in the third doubles match.

The Spartans earned singles wins in the second, third, fifth and sixth singles matches to run away with the win. Greenstein notched a 6-2, 6-2 win in the second singles match. Rosenkrantz rolled past Conrad Ellis 6-0, 6-2 in the third singles contest.

In the fifth singles match, Erk downed Baker 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Devin Lehigh (York, Pa./Central York) closed out the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win over D'Anna.

Against Goucher, the Green and White won the second and third doubles matches to start with a 2-1 lead heading to singles play. Greenstein and Rosenkrantz blanked Pat Murnin and Britt Schortle 8-0 in the second doubles match. Hanson and Handlin earned an 8-2 win in the third doubles match for York.

In singles play, the Gophers took the first two singles matches but the Spartans stormed back to take the final four singles matches and the team win.

Rosenkrantz earned a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) win in the third singles match. Bullaj notched a 6-3, 6-2 fourth singles victory while Erk recorded a 6-4, 6-0 fifth singles win. Hanson closed out the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Messiah to take on the Falcons in a non-conference match. The match is set for a 3:30 pm start.
