Falcons Fly By Spartans in Non-Conference Action

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College swim team dropped a 142-61 non-conference decision at Messiah College on Wednesday night in Grantham, PA.

The Spartans fall to 1-6 overall while the Falcons improve to 5-0 with the win.

In the first individual event of the night, freshman Brianna Blackwell (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) earned a second place finish in the 1000 freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 11:45.63. Teammate Madison Tonkay (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) finished third in the race for the Spartans.

Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest) notched a third place finish in the 200 freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 2:08.42 as she was just .39 seconds out of a second place finish.

Senior Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover) earned a fourth place finish in the 50 free as she recorded a time of 26.75.

Freshman Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy) earned a third place finish in the next event, the 200 IM, as she traversed the pool in a time of 2:22.99. Banks went back-to-back events as she recorded another third place finish in the 100 fly, notching a time of 1:03.81.

Freshman Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) placed third in the 100 free with a time of 58.80 while Dacheux placed fourth with a time of 58.94.

Greenwald earned two points for the Green and White in the 100 backstroke as she placed fourth with a time of 1:08.50.

Blackwell placed third in the 500 free as the freshman touched the wall in a time of 5:48.49. Teammate Kate McConaghy (Phoenixville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished fourth as she completed the race in a time of 5:53.37.

Dacheux recorded a second place finish for the Green and White in the 100 breaststroke as she posted a time of 1:13.82, earning four points for York.

The Spartans' picked up their lone first place finish of the night when the relay team of Witte, Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton), McConaghy, and Greenwald won the 200 free relay.

York retuns to action on Saturday to cap a very busy week of action. The Spartans travel to Washington and Jefferson for a non-conference dual meet. The meet is slated for a 1:00 pm start in Washington, Pa.
