ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College women's swim squad opened their 2014-15 season with a 112- 87 victory at Elizabethtown College on Saturday afternoon in Elizabethtown.
The Spartans started off with a win in the 200 free medley relay as the foursome of Sam Wingate (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover), Kacey Banks (Silver Spring, Md./Spencerville Adventist Academy), and Danielle Werner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) combined to notch a time of 2:02.87.
The Spartans' first individual victory came from Taylor Witte (University Park, Md./St. John's College) in the 50 freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 27.48. Werner finished second with a time of 28.03.
Dacheux recorded the next Spartan win, as she was victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.76. Banks second with a time of 2:26.83.
Freshman Kate McConaghy (Phoenixville, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) posted a win in the 100 fly as she concluded the race with a time of 1:04.89.
Witte led a one-two-three Spartan finish in the 100 free as she won the race with a time of 59.39. Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest) placed second with a time of 1:01.28 while Taylor Michielini (Montvale, N.J./Pasack Hills) was third at 1:02.45.
Banks rolled to a win in the 500 free as she touched the wall in a time of 5:40.38.
The Spartans swam the final two races as exhibitions as the meet was already decided.
The Spartans return to action on Halloween night as they travel to Mary Washington for their Capital Athletic Conference opener. The meet is set for a 6:00 pm start.
