YORK, Pa. - The York women's tennis team competed against
Goucher College on September 29. The Spartans fought to a 7-2
victory, boosting their 2010 fall campaign record to 2-0.
York's number two and three doubles pairs both secured wins. Samantha
Brenner and Megan McCullin
teamed up for an 8-4 victory over Mara Bergman and Addie
Maxwell.
In the third doubles slot, Arcondia Vlahos and Joelle Stasak
scored the 8-4 result to claim the victory.
In singles, Spartan number one Sarah Wargo had a
long day of play. She lost the first set 4-6, but came back to win
the second 6-2. The tiebreaker seemed easy for her as she won
10-3.
The second spot, belonging to Katelyn Acker as
she proved her abilities by dominating in two sets 6-1 and 6-2.
In the third slot, McCullin went to three sets before notching
the victory. She had lost the first set 4-6 but that did not stop
her as she came back with a 6-4 second set win. The tiebreaker was
won with ease with a score of 10-1.
Vlahos, York's number five, won without much difficulty took on
Jacqui Lamer of Groucher putting it away in two sets 6-2, 6-0. At
number six, Stasak defeated Ryan Derham 6-1, 6-2.
