READING, Pa. – The York College
women's tennis team started the fall campaign on Wednesday,
September 15, with an outstanding performance against Albright
College. The Spartan's ultimately defeated the Lions with a
7-2 win, opening their fall season with a 1-0 record.
In singles play, the Green and White claimed five victories and
suffered only one loss. Katelyn Acker registered the first victory
of her junior campaign against Kaitlin Kimmel as she took the
second slot easily with each set clearly favoring Acker (6-0,
6-1).
Sophomore Megan McCullin, York's number three, defeated
her opponent Kelly Irwin with the same outcome, 6-0,6-1. Samantha Brenner took on the Lions number four, Chrissy Mouldakad, and
seized victory 6-1, 6-4.
In the fifth singles spot, Spartan newcomer Dia Vlahos conquered
Elissa Dubber for the win. Joelle Stasak picks up the victory for
the Green and White courtesy of an Albright forfeit.
York's number two doubles team, McCullin and Brenner,
defeated Albright's Irwin and Mouldakad by an 8-2 result. The
third doubles team of Vlahos and Stasak also picked up an Albright
forfeit win.
The lone doubles loss for York saw by Sarah Wergo and Acker,
fall to Victoria Foanio and Kimmel. The close match ended with an
8-6 result.
Spartans will look to improve upon their 1-0 record by defending
their home court Wednesday, September 29, at 3:30 against Goucher
College.
