YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis squad
picked up their sixth win of the 2010 season with an 8-1 victory
over visiting Stevenson in a Capital Athletic Conference match on
Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 6-7 (3-2 CAC) while the
Mustangs drop to 2-4 (0-3 CAC).
In singles action, the Spartans secured five of the six points
including the top two spots. Sophomore Katelyn Acker
(Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) nabbed the first-singles win
with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Wendy Ogbolu. Acker now
sports a strong 9-4 individual record as each of her 13 matches
have come as York's #1.
Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) took
the second position for the Green and White with yet another
straight set win 6-0, 6-2.
The fourth through sixth slots saw the York squad cruise to a
trio of individual wins. Megan McCullin (New Windsor,
Md./Westminster Senior), one of the Spartans'
promising youngsters, captured an 8-3 pro-set win in the fourth
position. Fifth singles belonged to Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) who blanked Michelle Huber
8-0 while Maria McFaulds (North Effort, Pa./Pleasant
Valley) grabbed the 8-2 triumph in sixth singles.
The Spartans swept the doubles play, led by Acker and Doutrich
who picked up an 8-2 victory in the first position. Brenner and
McCullin combined for an 8-5 triumph in the second slot while
Nelson and McFaulds teamed up for an 8-2 win. The duo of Nelson and
McFaulds has put together a solid 4-3 record in doubles for the
Green and White this season.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, April 10, when they
travel to Washington College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
