YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad
rebounded from yesterday's loss to Dickinson with a
resounding 8-1 Capital Athletic Conference triumph over visiting
Stevenson on Tuesday afternoon in York. The Spartans improve to 6-7
on the season including 3-2 in league play while the Mustangs drop
to 2-8 and 0-4 in the CAC.
The York side captured each of the three doubles matches. The
senior tandem of Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop
Shanahan) and Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury) nabbed the top spot with an 8-1 win over
Ted Cooke and Ben Petasky.
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) and
Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain
East) picked up the second position with an 8-3 win while
Ryan Harvey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and
Justin Hostetter (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford
Area) posted another 8-3 win in third doubles. With that
win, Harvey and Hostetter have now put together a 7-4 record
(excluding their match with Grand Rapids Community College), which
is York's best doubles mark of the year.
In singles action, York took the second through sixth slots to
secure five points for the Spartan side.
Collison tallied a straight set 6-1, 6-2 triumph in second
singles while Jones notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the third slot as
straight set wins would be the trend.
Klein posted the fourth singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 result.
Hostetter was tested slightly against Shawn Kelley but was able
to pull through 6-3, 7-5.
Harvey, who sports York's best individual mark with a 10-3
record, picked up his tenth win with a solid 6-1, 6-1 result over
Shawn Hellman.
The Spartans return to action Saturday, April 10, when they
travel to Washington College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
