YORK, PA – In the first round of the 2010 Capital Athletic
Conference Tournament, the York College men's tennis team
picked up a 9-0 sweep over visiting St. Mary's on Sunday
afternoon in York. The Spartan improve to 9-8 on the season while
the Seahawks fall to 11-10.
Senior Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)
secured the top singles spot with a straight set 6-3, 6-1 triumph.
In the #2 slot, fellow senior Steve Collison (Woodbury,
N.J./Westville) nabbed his 11th total victory
this season, including York's match against Grand Rapids
Community College. He bested Jeff Levy 6-1, 6-4.
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion), the
Spartans' regular at third singles, reached the double-digit
win plateau with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at #3.
Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain
East) picked up the fourth slot for the Spartans with a
6-2, 6-2 victory – his 11th of the season.
In fifth singles, Justin Hostetter (Lincoln University,
Pa./Oxford Area) collected a 9-7 pro-set triumph as he
bested Josh Olexa.
Ryan Harvey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) continued
his excellent player at York's sixth singles. He posted a
6-1, 6-4 victory over Drew Barnes. Harvey improves to an impressive
15-3 overall this year as he has won his last five matches.
The Green and White also swept through each of the three doubles
matches. Graci and Collison combined in the #1 spot for a clean 8-0
triumph.
Jones and Klein bested Kenny Nugent and Barnes 8-3 while the duo
of Hostetter and Harvey defeated Olexa and Robbie Bourdon 8-0.
The Spartans continue their journey toward a CAC title when they
travel to Salisbury, Md. on Tuesday, April 20, to take on the
second-seeded Sea Gulls.
