ANNVILLE, PA – The York College women's tennis team
fell Wednesday afternoon 7-2 to a talented Lebanon Valley squad in
Annville, Pa. The loss drops the Spartans 2010 record to 7-9 while
the Flying Dutchmen improve to a stellar 15-1.
Despite the overall team loss, junior Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) had a superb individual day.
Nelson began by combining with Maria McFaulds (North
Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) to capture the third doubles
win for the Green and White. The duo bested Morgan Brady and
Sarah Betty 8-4. Together, Nelson and McFaulds own York's top
doubles record this season as they sport a 6-3 record in 2010.
Nelson then nabbed her eighth singles triumph of the season with
a straight set 6-1, 6-0 victory in the fifth position. She defeated
Caitlin Bedford as Nelson improves her singles mark to 8-4, the
second-best record on the Spartan squad behind Katelyn
Acker's (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) 10-6.
The York side stretched a pair of matches to three sets. In the
third slot, Samantha Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South
Carroll) won the first set 6-4, but then fell 6-2, 7-5 to
Tamera Lobb.
McFaulds also saw her sixth spot match stretch to three. She
took the first 6-2, but then dropped the last two sets by 6-4
counts.
With their regular season now complete, the Spartans turn their
attention to the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. York
begins the league playoffs on Saturday, April 17. With matches
still to be played, the Spartans' opponent has yet to be
determined. For up-to-date information please visit the official
