YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis squad
fell hard Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 result to visiting
Salisbury in the Spartans' first home match of the 2010
campaign. The Green and White fall to 1-4 on the season including
0-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play while the Sea Gulls begin
their dual match season with a 1-0 mark.
The Spartans' top effort came from Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) in the fourth slot as she
pushed Rachel Lupinetti to a full three sets. Nelson took the first
frame by a 6-4 count before Lupinetti responded with a 6-3 triumph
in set #2. The final set saw Lupinetti capture a 10-5 decision to
take the #4 singles.
Sophomore Samantha Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South
Carroll) battled at third singles but unfortunately
dropped the match 6-3, 6-2 to Salisbury's Elaina Iosue.
The Green and White return to action on March 16 as they hit the
road for Dover, Del. The Spartans are slated to face CAC foe Wesley
in a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
