HILTON HEAD, SC – The York College men's tennis team
suffered their second loss of the 2010 campaign on Thursday,
falling 6-3 to Augustana. The Spartans, who won a trio of singles
matches, now fall to 2-2 for the spring season.
Senior captain Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury), who has gotten off to a great start in his
final season in the Green and White, bested Nik Lehnert in a three
set come-from-behind victory. After dropping the first set by a 6-2
count, Collison rallied to capture sets two and three with 6-2 and
10-1 results, respectively. For the spring campaign, Collison
now stands at a solid 3-1 in singles play.
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) picked up the
triumph at the #3 spot for the Spartans. Jones rattled off a
straight set victory over Kyle Doyle, 6-3, 7-5.
Sophomore Ryan Harvey (Fallston, Md./Fallston),
who has shown significant promise in his second year, tallied a
6-3, 6-3 win over Geoff Schoon.
In doubles action, Collison and fellow senior Paul Graci
(Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) took Chris Mullin and Adam
DeSimone to the brink but eventually fell 9-8 (5-0).
The Green and White are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday,
March 9, when they return home to face Capital Athletic Conference
foe Salisbury in a 3:30 p.m. match.
