WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College women's tennis
team snagged a 5-4 non-conference victory Sunday at Catholic. The
Spartans edge ever closer to the .500 mark as they now stand at 5-6
for the season while the Cardinals fall to 5-7.
The Spartans swept through the doubles matches, which proved to
be a key factor in their team triumph.
Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) and
Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) teamed up
for an 8-2 win in #1 doubles to top Marjorie Selinger and Ritamarie
Holden. In the second slot, Samantha Brenner (Mount Airy,
Md./South Carroll) and Megan McCullin (New
Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) notched an 8-1 triumph.
Both duos now improve to 4-7 on the 2010 campaign.
The third doubles win came by way of Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) and Samantha Hunt
(Albany, N.Y./Albany), who pick up the 8-3 win in just
their first outing together.
York would add two more decisive points in singles action.
Acker, the Spartans' sophomore #1 singles player, grabbed a
straight set 6-2, 6-0 win over Selinger as her individual record
now stands at an impressive 8-3.
Nelson secured the Green and White's second singles
triumph, taking the fifth spot. The junior now owns a 5-2 mark,
York's second-best individual record of the year.
Sporting a three-match winning streak, the Spartans return home
on Tuesday, March 30. The Green and White take on Goucher in a 3:00
p.m. contest in York.
