WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College men's tennis
squad picked up their fifth win of the 2010 season courtesy of a
5-4 triumph over Catholic in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. The
Spartans now move to 5-6 while the Cardinals fall to 7-5.
York nabbed a two of their five points in doubles play.
Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) and
Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain
East) gave the Spartans the second doubles win with an 8-0
shutout of Michael Schinella and Michael Reaney.
Justin Hostetter (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford
Area) and Ryan Harvey (Fallston,
Md./Fallston) took the third slot by way of an 8-4 result.
Singles action saw the Green and White snag three more points to
secure the victory. Senior captain Steve Collison
(Westville, N.J./Woodbury) won the #2 singles slot.
Collison bested Schinella with a straight set 6-3, 6-4 triumph.
In addition to their doubles wins, Klein and Harvey each nabbed
singles victories. Klein picked up the fourth slot with a three-set
5-7, 6-0, 6-1 result over Joe Gribbin.
Harvey, the reigning Capital Athletic Conference
Player-of-the-Week in men's tennis, would capture the sixth
slot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The Spartans quickly return to action as they play host to
Dickinson College on Monday, March 29. York takes on the Red Devils
in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
